A compelling new study from Worcester Polytechnic Institute—commissioned by the Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA)—reminds us that sustainability can start right in our driveways. The research highlights a powerful yet often overlooked way to reduce carbon emissions and energy use: choosing recycled auto parts.

At Wilbert’s Premium Auto Parts, we’re proud to be at the forefront of this eco-conscious shift. For decades, we’ve understood that vehicles are among the most recyclable consumer products, and we’ve made it our mission to ensure that high-quality, recycled OEM parts are accessible, affordable, and environmentally responsible.

The Carbon Case for Recycled Auto Parts

The study makes a clear case: using recycled parts dramatically cuts carbon emissions compared to using newly manufactured components. For example, reusing a Toyota Camry engine can save 710.82 kilograms of CO₂ emissions—equivalent to the carbon captured by 11 tree seedlings grown for a decade or the energy needed to charge more than 44,000 smartphones.

Beyond just engines, the research examined 30 different auto parts across sedans, SUVs, and trucks and found consistent energy and emissions savings for every recycled component. Manufacturing a new Camry engine, for instance, consumes 1,615.49 kWh of energy, a burden entirely avoided by choosing a recycled one.

Wilbert’s Commitment to Greener Roads

At Wilbert’s Premium Auto Parts, we align our operations with the very principles this study promotes. Our advanced recycling processes prioritize sustainability at every step—from efficient part removal to rigorous quality checks that ensure reliability without compromising the planet.

We believe in giving every vehicle part a second life, significantly reducing the demand for energy-intensive mining and manufacturing of new metals like steel and aluminum. Our contributions not only divert waste from landfills but also directly support global efforts toward carbon neutrality.

Empowering Consumers with Sustainable Choices

One of the most exciting implications of the WPI study is its emphasis on consumer empowerment. Providing environmental data at the point of sale enables drivers to make more informed decisions—balancing cost-effectiveness with ecological impact.

Wilbert’s is actively developing initiatives to highlight the carbon savings of our parts, giving customers a clearer understanding of their role in building a more sustainable future with every repair or replacement they make.

A Greener Future, One Car at a Time

The findings from this study reinforce what we at Wilbert’s Premium Auto Parts have long known: the key to meaningful environmental change lies in everyday choices. By choosing recycled parts, consumers contribute to reducing global emissions, preserving natural resources, and supporting local economies.

We encourage all vehicle owners to think beyond the bin—and consider the real, measurable impact of using recycled auto parts. At Wilbert’s, we’re here to make that choice easier, smarter, and more sustainable than ever.
